Spring Break Chalk Painting Marathon

My friend Sharon kept me busy during Spring Break. While others were basking in the sun on far away beaches we worked our butts off !
But it was fun and well worth it!
These chairs were our big project.

They started our as sun faded wing -back chairs that needed to be reupholstered or taken to Goodwill. The fabric had no tears and was in great shape other than being faded out. That was a plus.

Started painting the cushions before we got the shot(as usual)

We began by spraying down the chairs with a light mist of water. We then made a 50/50 mixture of Annie Sloan Old White and water.
This is how it looked after one coat.
It ended up taking about 3 coats. Each had to dry over night. Then when it was finally covered we gave it a coat of clear wax and buffed. They are soft and leather like. We painted and distressed the legs adding a little dark wax.

It took a lot of time but I think it was well worth it! Definitely much cheaper than reupholstering! I have a similiar chair I was thinking of painting. Now that I know how it looks I think I'll go for it.

This was the cornice board before. You can still see the texture
of the elephants but you can't tell what they are.

This table didn't get a before shot but it was dark wood. In very good shape.Again we gave it Sharon's favorite color, Old White.

We also gave it a few touches of gold. Love it!
She also had this huge urn. It was gold. We painted with French Linen and wiped off showing some of the gold. Much better.

Sharon also had this old phono cabinet. The hole is where the turntable used to be. She still had the door but we did not want it back on.

We gave it a light sanding and painted it, Old Ochre.

I took the handle off the broken door and added it to the side to put a hand towel through. Sharon is going to use this in her bathroom to put towels in with all her cute bathroom bottles and potions on top.

Sharon went by Venable Glass and had a mirror cut for the bottom to cover the speaker area. We used some E6000 glue to hold it on.  She is going to get someone to put in a shelf in the middle part and add a back.

I love the way we left the radio and knobs! Really cute! Great idea Sharon.
She says she has another cabinet on consignment at Repeat Street,
but it is not as cute as this one!
There are a few other items we didn't finish. I'll share those soon.

Isn't Chalk paint amazing? If you have been following my blog you know that I have painted almost any surface you can think of with this paint.
It is just amazing!
I also finished painting the chest in my foyer. I'll save that for another day.
Hope you all have a fine St. Patrick's day!
Thanks for visiting.

We just love Chalk Paint!

Now that the weather is getting nice everyone wants to paint anytime it is not raining. This week we painted on Friday and Saturday.
(Trying to beat the rain that is coming in today.)

The cabinet below is one Helen found at the 49 South Flea Market on our last trip. It is a piece called a Dry Sink. It was solid maple and probably from the 70's, I would guess.

We gave it a coat of Old White in Annie Sloan Chalk Paint and the door panels got Country Grey. The top had a copper metal liner. It was a little rough and copper cleaner just didn't do the trick so we spray painted it with Rustoleum Metallic paint in Hammered Copper.

We found these devine knobs at Hobby Lobby. Love them!

The Emperor's silk inside and accents along the top just do the trick.

It got clear and dark wax and a few touches of copper gilding wax.
She plans to use it in her kitchen for her drink station.
We just love how it turned out! One of our favorites so far.

Here is the almost before, We had already done some sanding before I remembered the shot!

Pam finished up the horse tool box.

It was painted with ASCP in Coco with clear and dark wax. It has a little plate on the from which she plans to get monogrammed. Cute!

This is the cute telephone table Pam bought at the 49 South Flea Market. It was dark pine. Didn't get a before shot of this one. Pam painted the outside with French Linen and the inside with Graphite. She plans to use it for her fax machine in her husband's office. Paper storage underneath! Great!

The trunk was another Goodwill find. $20

Helen painted it in ASCP in Versailles. It is a great size and has wonderful storage. Helen did a great job.

As we were finishing up painting on Saturday, Helen's husband, Mark, brought us over delicious smoked brisket and chicken breasts. He cooks delicious meats that would be great for tailgaiting or other gatherings. We added a salad and had a scrumptious lunch! Thanks Mark!

We had several other items that are in progress. Hope to finish up those this week. Thanks for visiting.

March goes out like a lamb

On Friday we made some really good progress on the pile of "treasures" on my back porch. Pam and Helen came to paint at 8:30. We made a quick run to Goodwill to see if there were any new finds. Then we began painting.

Helen found this sturdy tv tray.

A flea market find by Helen.

Wood table of my mom's. I have two of these nearly alike. One from Bob's mother and one from mine. This one had a beautiful finish,
but I still decided to paint it.

Found this little basket at GW.

Pam has been working on this umbrella stand since last fall. The spindles are time consuming and Pam is a perfectionist! Her work is beautiful!

Found this wastebasket this week at GW.  .. . . .$3.

GW . . . . . . $1.25

Some sort of horse grooming toolbox. Pam found this on one of
our outings. It is for Gay!

Here are the things we finished!
The table was painted Country Grey with a little dark wax. The basket was painted with Coco and Provence dry brushed on top. (took it right inside and put my napkins in it!)

I decided to do the finish on the table the same as I did that jewelry box.
Bronze acrylic paint on top, Annie Sloan Chalk paint in French Linen with clear and dark wax.

Helen's table got Annie Sloan Paris Grey and Old White on top.
Touches of dark wax and Gold gilding wax finished it off!

These are our PIPS....projects in progress. We got several of the items painted, now they are ready for wax and finishing touches
.(Helen and Pam are holding up the beach towel for our background)

I think we slipped in a couple of items that I did not get BEFORE pics.
Also, look at our great workbench. I asked for sawhorses for my birthday and Bob came through! We got two boards for the top. It can easily be taken down and put away!

I just love my Stanley Plastic Sawhorses!
They are light, adjustable and easily put away!

Here is a sneak peak of another project I have in progress! I hope you enjoyed! I love comments! Look below and find the word "Comment", click on it and tell me what you think!
