June.....back to painting and scrapping!

So happy to be back painting and scrappin'.
The wedding was just beautiful and everything went smoothly. It could not have been more perfect!
This past week we scrapped on Wednesday and painted on Friday.
After checking out Goodwill at 8:30 we headed to Jackson to the Old House Depot. It is an architectural salvage shop with tons of really neat goodies.

They had some nice rhubarb growing outside!

Then, since we were driving by, we had to stop at Paint and pick up some chalk paint. We were out of wax and Paris Grey. Love this shop!

Helen loved this cute litle teapot since she's in to tea.
Pam as a Price is Right model!

As you can see I was ready to paint, no make-up, nada.

Finally we got home.
Here is the stuff we planned to paint.

But first, we had to have some lunch. Pam and Helen treated Bob and I to Mexican from the new restaurant that moved into where the Haughty Pig used to be. It was so delicious. Fresh cooked tacos with a slice of avocado on top. Yum! I highly recommend it!

Then it was time to paint. It seemed to be a blue day.

Helen's tray looks so cute now with Emile ASCP.

Pam painted this cute humidor in Florence ASCP.
I cut the stencil with my Cameo. It is so cute!

Helen's jewelry box got Provence (my favorite)

And our Scrap projects:
Another invitation that Helen will put in a shadow box frame for a gift.

Pam did a great job on William's birth announcement.

Another gift. Really cute.

Looking forward to more scrapping this week. With all this rain not sure we can paint. Thanks for visiting.

Projects with Meg and Charlie....

I found some more goodies at Goodwill. The shelf I just love and
the tray, well I thought I could do something with it.
Turns out they both were good deals!

While doing some cleaning in Charlie's (old) closet, I found a bag of beer caps. We decided they would be the perfect thing for the tray.
Charlie helped paint the tray black.

We laid out the caps just how we wanted them then I placed a piece of contact paper on top. Then lifted them off.

Then I had the idea to put Mod Podge in the base and then place the caps on top. I believed that this would dry clear. We bought some of that thick epoxy(like a bartop) your pour on top.

Then we put heavy things on top to hold it down. Wait, wait, and wait....

The next day it did not seem to be drying so I carefully peeled off the contact paper. Still waiting for it to dry. I don't think the Mod Podge was a good idea. I thought it would fill in some of the space, dry clear and them pour the other stuff over. We gave up on the drying and they just had to take it on with them. If the MP(Hodge Podge, I mean) ever dries, they can pour the clear epoxy over the top. Hopefully they will send a photo when it is finished!

Next, I showed Meg how to use the Chalk Paint on the shelf . They sold almost all their furniture so they will be shopping Goodwill, the curbs and flea markets to furnish their new apartment. I thought the Chalk paint would be a great way for them to jazz up what they find!

We painted the whole thing with Old White, then used a little of the Provence blue on the edges and I did some scratching to add just a little details.

We added clear and dark wax.

Meg finished the shelf. Really cute! It will make a great place for
 scarves, keys or whatever!

We enjoyed our visit with Charlie and Meg. They are now
off to new adventures with the Fighting Illini in Champaign, Il.
Good luck you two! And happy Goodwill Hunting!

Benches and Bargains

These benches are the ones I bought at the flea market. They were made from reclaimed wood and very sturdy. They had nail holes, peeling paint and
lots of great distressing.

I didn't want to lose the "shabbiness"of the old wood, so I just sanded a little and added some paint and wax. On one I used the Chateau Gray and Old white mix on the legs. On that one I added the dark wax.

The other just got a thin coat of old white
 and clear wax.

They would make a great addition to a porch or patio. They are perfect beside a chair or to use as a coffee table. In fact I plan to take one to the river and sell the other. Not sure which one, I love them both!

This photo shows how they looked just after I did some sanding.

Last Friday I just had the best day! As I as leaving the neighborhood a man was dragging this cabinet to the curb for trash pick-up. I screeched to a stop and jumped out. I asked if it was broken and he said it just was missing the pegs to hold the shelves. (No problem..I know Lowe's and Home Depot have those!)
He even loaded it in my car!

As I was returning to the neighborhood,  I saw there was a Yard sale..... right on the next street! Well, I found this cute little cabinet. The lady said she used it in college and she was about my age(so it was pretty old). It was made of solid pine and was really in good shape. A missing knob was not a problem.

It had great curves and details on the doors. Plenty of dust and spider webs!

The inside had a great shelf and dividers.

And... the very best part......I got it for 5 dollars!! The lady patted it good-by as she helped me load it in my car. When I finish, I plan to bring it back to show her. Oh, but she may want it back!

Another project I completed was to paint this mirror. It was one mom and dad made when they were doing the Country wood cut-outs and painting thing. It was really pretty but not the colors I wanted.

I undercoated some areas with Provence chalk paint and then painted over with Old White. I just did a touch of sanding to let this show through. I plan to put it over the blue chest at the river.

My new pieces called for new colors, so I got some great ones. Wait 'til you see.
Should be back tomorrow with a peek at
one of them.
